The outside of the bowls were intentionally left unglazed and were highly burnished

The glaze was applied by hand

with a stark contrasting white glaze in the carved pattern

The clay is ceramic stoneware, and the glazes have melted and blended in the kiln, creating an ocean beach pattern.
