This unusual twin engine plane had a gondola with a pilot's cabin placed between two fuselages. The so called "flying frame" provided very good performance, which resulted in a long production period lasting from 1941 to 1945 and an excellent number of victories by American pilots. The aircraft was withdrawn from service only in 1965. P 38
