Reduces alkyl phenyl ketones and alpha dicarbonyl compounds with aromatic rings, such as pyrimidine 4 aldehyde, 3 benzoylpyridine, 4 benzoylpyridine, menadione and 4 hexanoylpyridine. Has no activity towards aliphatic aldehydes and ketones.
