Delaney consulted with Troy on his thoughts on life, fatherhood, love, work, and childhood, seeking to find common threads that unite us all. The original concept of the album was for Troy to write poetry about different stages of life, providing the foundation for each song. However, Delaney ended up delving into Troy's memories and subconscious to
